Amy Jade Winehouse was a singer and songwriter from England. She was renowned for both her wide range of musical styles, which included soul, jazz, and rhythm and blues, as well as her rich, expressive contralto voice. Winehouse battled addiction and substance abuse. At the age of 27, she passed away on July 23, 2011, from an alcohol overdose. Back to Black momentarily overtook her as the best-selling record of the twenty-first century in the UK after her passing. On their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music, VH1 rated Winehouse 26th.
