Dieter Birr

A German singer, guitarist, and composer by the name of Dieter "Maschine" Birr. He was a longtime member of the 2016 disbanded rock group Puhdys. Dieter Birr received training as a grinder while also learning how to play the guitar on his own. He studied guitar, music theory, and dance music at the Musikschule Friedrichshain in East Berlin from 1966 to 1972. He played in the bands Telestars, Luniks, Jupiters, and Evgeni-Kantschew-Quintett up until 1969. He joined the Puhdys in 1969, which went on to become the most commercially successful rock band in GDR history. Around 250 songs were written by Birr for the band.
