German guitarist and vocalist Dieter "Quaster" He was a founder member of Puhdys, a rock group. Hertrampf was raised in Berlin-Friedrichshain by his parents, brother, and other family members. He is still a Berlin resident. In 1959, Hertrampf started taking guitar lessons on his own. He joined a skiffle band and started his study as a traffic draftsman in 1960. He joined the Homedia Combo in 1961 and was a part of them for about two years. After that, he spent a year performing with the Dieter-Frank-Combo. He co-founded the "Puhdys" in 1965 alongside Peter Meyer, Udo Jacob, and Harry Jeske. Dieter is the meaning of the "d" in the band's name. His bandmates gave him the nickname "Quaster" as he struggled with the The Shadows tune "Quartermaster's Store."
