Flea is the stage name of Michael Peter Balzary, an Australian-born American musician and actor. Flea was born in Melbourne, Victoria, and his family relocated to Rye, New York, when he was four years old. He is a founding member and bassist of the rock group Red Hot Chili Peppers. Flea was raised in America and Australia following his parents' divorce before settling in California. He made a friend with singer Anthony Kiedis in high school, and the two went on to found the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1983. Flea has shared the stage with artists such as the Mars Volta, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Alanis Morissette, Young MC, Nirvana, and What Is This. He is also a member of the supergroups Atoms for Peace, Antemasque, Pigface, and Rocket Juice & the Moon. , Jane's Addiction, and Fear.
