Frank Schöbel

German musician Frank Schöbel plays guitar. He was one of the most popular pop singers in socialist East Germany (GDR), and even after Germany's unification, he has kept performing. His early musical potential was found because he was the second child of an opera singer. He began his career in the GDR as a musician, but he also made TV show appearances as a presenter and performer, and he played in DEFA movies. He recorded the song "Wie ein Stern" (Like a Star) in 1971, and it was featured in the highly regarded movie The Lives of Others from 2007. This song was a big hit in East Germany, selling 400,000 albums through Amiga in that country and 150,000 through Philips in West Germany.
