As the lead singer and frontman of the wildly popular hardrock band EUROPE, Joey Tempest is well-known throughout the world. Beginning his career in 1979 with John Norum, Tempest went on to create the eponymous first album "Europe," which helped him become a national success in Sweden in 1982. Wings Of Tomorrow, an album released in 1984, allowed Europe to tour all of Scandinavia. The Final Countdown, written by Joey Tempest, became a global anthem of the 1980s and topped the charts in 30 different nations. His and Europe's success and notoriety persisted until 1993, when Europe decided to break up, in part because of this song, other albums (1988 Out Of This World, 1991 Prisoners In Paradise, plus extensive global touring).
