English musician John Richard Deacon, who is now retired, is best known for playing bass for the rock group Queen. He produced a number of tracks for the band. He was involved in the administration of the band's finances. Deacon studied electronics at Chelsea College in London after spending his formative years in Oadby, Leicestershire, where he also played bass guitar in the local band The Opposition. On the strength of his musical and electronic abilities, especially the homemade Deacy Amp that guitarist Brian May used to build guitar orchestras throughout Queen's career, he joined Queen in 1971. He began writing at least one song for each album starting with the third, Sheer Heart Attack, and several of those songs went on to become hits. Deacon contributed to Queen's studio work on bass guitar, some guitar, keyboards, and piano.
