Popular German singer and composer Jürgen Walter is from Germany. Along with the Günther Fischer quartet, he visited Algeria in 1971. He sang a Clemens Klerber song as part of the East Germany Cultural Week in Algiers. A representative from the Brecht Archive in Berlin, who was present during the performance, approached him afterward and informed him that the moniker "Pippig" was unacceptable for the music industry. Although he had never taken any action, he had already had the same thinking. As a result of his increasing popularity, he was now frequently given the opportunity to go outside of East Germany for work-related purposes, and he was becoming aware that, particularly in francophone nations, the moniker "Pippig" faced the possibility of being mistaken for the offensive word "pinkelig."
