Mara Dolores "Lola" Flores Ruiz was a singer, dancer, and bailaor from Spain. Born in Jerez de la Frontera, Flores developed an early interest in the performing arts. She made her stage debut at the age of sixteen in her hometown's stage production of Luces de Espaa, where she became well-known for her imposing demeanor. Following Fernando Mignoni's dwascovery of her, Flores relocated to Madrid to pursue a career in music and movies. Her first appearance was as the star of Mignoni's Martingala. Alongside Manolo Caracol, she played her first major part in the musical Zambra in 1943. She sung original songs by Rafael de León, Manuel López-Quiroga Miquel, and Antonio Quintero, including "La Zarzamora" and "La Nia de Fuego," while mostly singing flamenco, copla, rumba, and ranchera. The media began to cover her extensively after that.
