Australian musician, environmentalist, campaigner, and former politician Peter Robert Garrett AM. Garrett took over the role of lead singer for the Australian rock group Midnight Oil in 1973. He is recognized as a performer for his distinctive bald head, peculiar dancing, and "mesmerising onstage presence." Before winning the 2004 election to represent the Labor Party in the House of Representatives for the Kingsford Smith seat, he spent ten years as the President of the Australian Conservation Foundation. Garrett was named Minister for the Environment, Heritage, and the Arts by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd following Labor's victory in the 2007 election. He was appointed Minister for School Education, Early Childhood, and Youth by Prime Minister Julia Gillard after the 2010 election.
