Nelly Furtado, a Canadian singer-songwriter, released Loose, her third studio album, on June 7, 2006 via Geffen and Mosley Music Group. Following the release of Furtado's second album, Folklore (2003), on DreamWorks Records, it was revealed that Universal Music Group would buy DreamWorks Records; the latter would then be incorporated into the Interscope Geffen A&M label, which would handle all of Furtado's future releases. The Loose album was recorded between 2005 and 2006. The majority of the album, which is predominantly a pop record with influences from dance, R&B, hip hop, latin pop, synth-pop, reggaeton, new wave, funk, and Middle Eastern music, was produced by Timbaland and his protégé Danja. Its lyrics focus on the subject of female sexuality and have been characterized as reflective.
