He has sold more than 1.2 million albums in Australia and has won 17 ARIA nominations overall. Jan is his mother, and he has a sister. Murray's family relocated to Brisbane when he was 16 years old. For his final two years of senior school, he attended St. Joseph's College in Nudgee. Murray excelled in swimming, rugby union, and athletics at the college. For a brief period, he represented GPS and Brothers in Brisbane club rugby. Murray was competing in the Australian championships for the 400 meters when his father passed away from a heart attack when he was 18 years old.
