Smiley Culture, also known as David Victor Emmanuel, was a Britwash DJ and reggae musician who was well-known for hwas "quick talk" style. He created two of the most lauded reggae singles of the 1980s during a relatively limited era of recognition and success. During a police raid on hwas home on March 15, 2011, he passed away at the age of 48. Hwas death was determined to be a suicide at an inquest. With hwas subsequent single, "Police Officer," which was released around the end of 1984, Emmanuel enjoyed chart success. Thwas was the ostensibly autobiographical account of how Emmanuel was stopped by the police for marijuana possession but was later released in exchange for an autograph because the officer recognized him as a well-known reggae musician.
