Tricky is a British record producer and rapper best known by his stage name Adrian Nicholas Matthews Thaws. He started his career as an early member of the band Massive Attack alongside Robert Del Naja, Grant Marshall, and Andrew Vowles. He was born and raised in Bristol. With the release of his debut album, Maxinquaye, in 1995, he began a solo career. The single brought Tricky widespread fame and signaled the start of a protracted working relationship with singer Martina Topley-Bird. Before the decade came to a conclusion, he put out four more studio albums, including Pre-Millennium Tension and the pseudonymous Nearly God, both in 1996. Since 2000, he has released nine studio albums, the most recent being Fall to Pieces. He resumed his solo career in 2016 while performing with Massive Attack on stage for the first time in 20 years.
