Billie Eilish's journey as a musician started when she was conceived because she was born into a family of songwriters and singers. Her mom Maggie Baird is an actress and a teacher. And she alongside Billie Eilish's brother Finneas stand as the concrete inspiration behind Ellish’s decision to go into music according to Ellish.

The Beginning

The beginning for Billie Ellish wasn’t what many thought. Her present life compared to her beginning is the complete opposite but that is a story for another time. Billie Ellish was born into a family of music lovers, but that alone didn’t just push her into music, certain significant events shaped her and changed her course in life, leaving her with music as the only option at that time.

Of course, she loved music initially, and her family supported her but she needed some support from nature as well as life itself to make her realise her talent. And we are all glad she did because who doesn’t love to listen to that angelic voice of hers when she sings? Anytime I listen to any song by Ellish, it is as if my soul is being touched right in the heart and I can’t help but let it out because she gets to me all the time. Nonetheless, this isn’t about me, it is about Billie Ellish so we will continue ;)

Before Ellish considered going fully into music, some significant events took place and I believe they contributed greatly to her becoming famous at a young age. I will be sharing these events with you, it is about to get interesting.

Significant Event #1: No Choice

Many of you know Billie Ellish as the famous singer and songwriter, but do you know that she tried other things before finally choosing or rather, being left with music as her only option to consider for life?

Yes, Ellish loved music from the beginning and there is no doubt about that. But what if she had loved acting? Or even become good at dancing? We wouldn’t have known the Elish that we know now because those are some of the things Billie tried doing, but they just weren’t the ones so she focused more on music.

When Billie Ellish was less than 11 years old, she had gone for a series of acting auditions but it didn’t work out. Some of you might find this surprising, but recall that Ellish’s mom was an actress so it made Ellish get to spend more time with actors and actresses. It is enough to make anyone want to be an actor but our Billie just wasn’t interested.

Dancing on the other hand was something Billie had considered. It is hard to finalise if she would have chosen dancing over singing even though I feel since the two walk together then it wouldn’t have been bad if she became a dancer as well.

The significant event that made Billie focus on music alone was that, while attending one of her dancing classes, she had an accident that led to an injury which put a stop to her dancing life. Billie had no option then but to settle for music, and music alone. I can’t help but wonder what was going through her mind after the incident.

Significant Event #2: Famous Trait

Before Billie decided on disliking acting completely, she had picked up something she enjoyed doing that is related to movies in some way. Billie didn’t like acting, but she found love in recording background dialogues for films. It might interest you to know that Billie recorded some background dialogue for some popular TV series like the X-Men Series, and some popular Films like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Ramona and Beezus.

With the knowledge she had gathered from there, she went on to write her first song ever at the age of 11, which was inspired by the popular zombie series AKA ‘Walking Dead’. I am taking a wild guess that you already know what the song was all about right? Of course, it wasn’t zombies growling, but it had to do with Zombies nevertheless and she named it ‘Zombie Apocalypse’ crazy right?

Her potential started revealing itself even though I believe she didn’t take things seriously until significant event 3 took place.

Significant Event #3: Gateway to Fame

Significant events define us; they shape our lives even if we don’t realise it soon enough to appreciate the moment. For Billie Ellish, everything changed when she and her brother Finneas uploaded her first song on SoundCloud. She said, “We recorded it just for fun and uploaded it on SoundCloud”. Little did she know that her life will never remain the same afterwards.

Billie then recorded her second song ‘Ocean Eyes’ which was written, mixed and produced by her brother. He had initially written the song for his band but decided that Ellish’s vocals would sound better for the song. Her journey to fame started shortly afterwards, she got a deal with Apple Music through the help of her brother, and his manager Danny Rukasin.

Apple Music Signed Billie Ellish to the A&R Company platoon that is specialized in packaging upcoming artists before they get a major record deal. Shortly afterwards, she got connected to a luxury fashion brand Channel, and a stylist through the help of a publicist and both of her newly found friends prepared her and shaped her new image in preparation for her incoming song video which at that time was ‘Ocean eyes’.

FAME

When the video for ‘Ocean Eyes’ premiered on Billie Ellish’s official YouTube Channel on March 24th 2016, she received even more praise and publicity than she imagined and all that came with a lot of promotions from countless media outlets including radio stations and music supervisors. The interesting part of this story was that all this happened when she was just 15 years old.
