Key Moments in Ed-Sheeran's Music Career

Ed Sheeran was 20 years old when he released his debut album titled ”PLUS”, which is represented with the “+” sign. The album which was released in 2011 served as an expository album, exposing to the world, how great Ed Sheeran is, and his uniqueness.

This article is aimed at imprinting in your heart, the key moments in Ed Sheeran’s music career so that you won’t forget how far he has come since the release of his debut album. Before that, I will like you to keep in mind that Ed Sheeran’s achievements are much that if I try to list them all, it will be a long read. So I decided on narrowing down the key moments that had a significant effect on his music career. Let’s dive in!!

Key Moment #1: The Exposure – 2011

In 2011 after Ed Sheeran released his debut album, he co-wrote a song titled "Moments" which was on the debut album made by the Boy Band One Direction. Ed Sheeran co-wrote a couple of other songs with other artists, nonetheless, the success recorded from the collaboration of the “Moments” marked the beginning of Ed Sheeran’s successful music career in collaborating with other artists.

Key Moment #2: The Queen’s Jubilee – 2012

Another interesting moment in Ed’s music career was when he was opportune to perform "The A Team" during the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. A concert that was held at the Mall just outside of Buckingham Palace. On 4th June 2012.

Key Moment #3: The Hobbit Sound Track – 2013

One of the key moments in Ed’s music career was when he recorded the soundtrack for a movie. Ed recorded the song "I See Fire" which was featured in the end credits of the movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”. He went on to record many other soundtracks, but with the success recorded from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”, it is safe to regard this as a key moment in his music career as well.

Key Moment #4: Best New Artist – 2014

Ed Sheeran did a follow-up album which he named "Sing". He was then nominated for the Best New Artist at the 2014 Grammy Awards. His new album also earned the number 1 single in the UK. Ed also took the opportunity to announce the release date of his next album which he named X (pronounced “Multiply”).

Key Moment #5: Ginger Breadman – 2015

Ed Sheeran declared his intention to create and own a record label which he named “Gingerbread Man records”. The record label emerged as a deal with the Warner Music Group.

Ed has signed up to 3 upcoming artists since the creation of his record label, and all are doing well. I hope to see more of the youngsters being signed to this record label and making it big just like Ed. The “Gingerbread Man Record Label” was created and launched in 2015, alongside its youtube channel.

Key Moment #6: 1 Year Break – 2015

It was one hell of a ride for Ed Sheeran, all between 2011 to 2015, and he needed to take a break. Spend time seeing nature and all that he has missed since he became famous. Ed came online to announce to his fans that he would be taking a yearlong break away from social media and partially, the world entirely. In his exact words, he said “See you all next autumn, and thank you for being amazing”. 

He left a lot of his fans emotional and sad about the fact that they wouldn’t be able to know what their favourite celebrity is up to for a whole year. But I didn’t think he had to deal with any of them as he was away doing what he loves best!!

Ed came back online on the 13th of December 2016 because he had left on the 13th of December 2015. He immediately changed his social handles to light-blue colour which implies the release of a new Album titled “/” (pronounced “Divide”).

Key Moment #7: The First Grammy – 2016

In 2016, Ed Sheeran received two Grammy awards for his song "Thinking Out Loud". He took home the Best Pop Solo Performance, and Song of the Year at the 2016 ceremony which took place in Los Angeles.

Key Moment #8: The MBE Award – 2017

Receiving the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) was an emotional moment for Ed. He said, “my granddad died years ago on this day, so it is a great full cycle thing and I believe he is proud”. Prince Charles handed Ed the award on December 2017, even though Ed was originally supposed to have collected this award in June 2017.

Key Moment #9: Edchup – 2019

Ed Sheeran has a tomato ketchup named after him. This will go down in history as one of his happiest moments. You can see the look on his face. This came about when Ed joined forces with Heinz Tomato Ketchup during their 150th years birthday and made his debut appearance in an advertisement for Heinz. Seeing that he has been a long-time fan, they produced a limited edition of the Heinz Tomato Ketchup for Ed, naming it Heinz Tomato Edchup instead.

Key Moment #10: Seaborn – 2020

Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn welcomed their first baby in September and they named her Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, a name I feel was inspired by both Ed and his Wife cherry Seaborn. Ed and Cheery Welcomed another Baby girl in 2022 making a total of 2 children.

Key Moment #11: Closing Ceremony – 2022

Ed Sheeran was honoured to close the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. He closed the ceremony by performing at the pageant just outside of Buckingham Palace in 2022.

Ed Sheeran’s journey is a fun-filled one and with the addition to his family, I believe he is surrounded by loved ones. I love the fact that he always makes time for his family, like the time when his wife gave birth to their first daughter and he asked his fans to respect the family’s privacy and they’ll see him when he is back online. That alone shows how devoted Ed can be and also the reason why he is loved by many.
