One of Doja Cat's popular hit songs "Vegas" didn't make it on the Oscars 2023 list. The song which was the lead single from Baz Luhrmann's Elvis, starring Austin Butler, is ineligible for Oscar consideration according to E! News.
According to Academy rules, any submission for Best Original Song must include "words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the motion picture," and her track contains elements of another song.
However, "Vegas" written by Doja Cat and produced by Roget Chahayed and Yeti Beats, featured interpolated material from "Hound Dog," a 1956 Elvis Presley song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
According to Variety, some of the songs that made the Oscars eligibility list include Lady Gaga's "Hold My Hand," Rihanna's "Lift Me Up," Billie Eilish and Finneas' "Nobody Like U," and Taylor Swift's "Carolina."
