As we all know, Justin is one of the greatest and most celebrated musicians the world has had for some time now. He started his music career as a young kid who at that time, probably had no idea where music would take him. But as fate would have it, in 2010, Justin Bieber attained a height in the world of music that many, who have been in music since before he came in, can only dream of. Described as a teen idol, Justin Bieber had ‘Baby’ , the single featuring Ludacris, changed his life completely and opened the gateway to fame for him. The story of the legend began shortly after the release of ‘Baby.’
Selena Gomez has had a successful track record as well. While Justin Bieber was busy building his life, Selena was also building a solid one in the world of acting, to begin with. Selena Gomez rose to fame in 2007, which was long before Justin Bieber came into the picture – becoming a public figure as well.
Their story began in 2009 after both stars were linked by their managers. At that time, Selena’s mom was her manager. She was contacted by Justin’s manager and so, they introduced the two celebs together – perhaps, giving them the green light to get together.
After the introduction, the two became inseparable friends and decided to take a ride on a ship called ‘Relationship’ afterwards. They tried keeping their relations low-key, but things didn’t stay that way for long and besides, it was getting tiring playing hide and seek, so they decided to come public with their love. And what better way to do so, other than attending an event together?
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez decided to break the news, or rather confirm the rumors of their dating to the public in 2011, by attending the ‘vanity Fair Oscars party.’
As if nature was against it, their publication on love marked the beginning of their relationship problems.
Even though Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were barely considered adults when they started dating, they had the best time of their lives – making appearances together and even being public with their affections.
Even though they claimed to have started dating only two years after when they met, their first public and most romantic display together dates back to 2009 – when they performed Justin Bieber’s song, ‘One less lonely girl.’ The emotions poured into the performance of this song raised some suspicions later on, on whether they said the truth about starting to date in 2011, or if they have known each other even before the introduction by their managers.
Like every ship, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez's relationship suffered a lot of turbulence. But the fact that they kept coming back into the same ship even after it has sunken a couple of times is one of the things that got fans talking and it was so serious that fans started naming relationships, ‘the Justin and Selena Gomez relationship’ – especially if the couples are known to break off and come back again.
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were together for an approximation of 8 years. But within those years they have broken-up up to 4 times, if not more than. If there was an award for celebrities who go on and off relationships with the same partners within a short period, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez would have been nominated and even won the awards.
2018 was however the thin red line for this former couple as their ship sank, and never sailed the sea again. The breakup left Selena Gomez single and going on a one-time dating escapade with other celebrities, while Justin Bieber decided it was time to settle down with Hailey Bieber.
On the internet today, there are lots of speculations on what caused the breakup that finally got the die-hard lovers to go their ways. According to a publication made by E! News, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez broke up because they were constantly having arguments that led to them fighting. But is that even true? Thinking about it, mere arguments and relationship fights are two things that are common in today’s adult relationships and they are not even strong enough to end a relationship that has survived cheating accusations.
Well, except if it didn’t survive the cheating accusations in the first place.
It’s true that Justin Bieber left Selena and married Hailey in just 2 months – in other words, replacing Selena, as she stated in her lyrics of ‘Lose you to love me.’
But, Justin replacing Selena first is not entirely true because, before Justin thought about going to Hailey Bieber, who was his childhood fan in 2009, Selena Gomez already replaced Justin Bieber with Zayn Malik, the British singer in 2016, while still dating Justin Bieber.
It first came public in 2016 under an Instagram post made by Justin, when Selena commented and Justin replied – letting all hell loose. Justin bluntly accused Selena of cheating on him with Zayn Malik, and what was Selena’s reply? She left the comment section with a silly excuse. She went, “Selenators are waiting for me.”
This was after Selena had publicly said she would kiss Zayn if she had to choose whom to kiss in ‘One Direction’.
Sure, everything died down after some time and the couple reportedly continued seeing each other.
But then, fast forward to March 30th, 2023 when Selena and Zayn Malik intentionally sparked up dating rumors. In a report, the couple were seen “Hand in hand” with each other, and publicly having the best times of their lives. It became more complicated, yet clear when Zayn pointed out that he was ready to settle down with Selena Gomez if she would want the same.
And it’s crystal clear now that Justin is out of the way. Justin Bieber was probably tired of being reminded of the fact that Selena cheated on him with Zayn – and seeing that at the time the scandal happened, Zayn was more like a competition to Justin Bieber.
And yes, so many things can be forgiven, but a cheating partner keeps the aura with them and it serves as a constant reminder that “Cheating” can happen again.
This pushed Justin Bieber to walk off and never look back again. Even though they both have said countless times never to stop loving each other, the atmosphere has been cleared on why the breakup happened and marked the end of a love story.
