Ticketmaster's parent company Live Nation Entertainment is the subject of an investigation by the Department of Justice due to the controversy surrounding Taylor Swift's ticket pre-sale.
According to The New York Times, the investigation was already underway when the drama of this week occurred. The investigation, which predates the botched Taylor Swift ticket presale this week, is said to center on whether Live Nation has abused its position of authority in the live music sector, the outlet said.
The investigation was requested back in March 2022 by Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). They claimed in a press release from back then that the status quo had led to consumers paying fees that were only going up and having a bad time buying tickets for live events.
